A classic gilded summertime wedding on Capitol Hill | Emily + Michael | Washington DC wedding photographers
Summer weddings are my favorite. There's something about the summer sunset that I just can't shake, but outdoor weddings in DC in the summer can be pretty sticky! Michael + Emily's top (and so smart) requirement for their wedding venue? Indoors, with air conditioning! And while it was my first time there, the Capitol Hill Club didn't disappoint. Emily complemented the club's existing gold decor with (DIY!) gilded pineapples, a traditional symbol of hospitality -- and from there, this wedding just got better and better!
Emily started the ultra-Presidential wedding day just three blocks away at the Capitol Hill Hotel. Why presidential? As her dad would highlight that night in his speech, Emily (a Washington) would be marrying Michael (a Hamilton), going from the one dollar bill to the ten dollar bill (and a hit Broadway musical!) in the process. Emily's taste is classic, lovely, with a smidge of pretty and girly, and her bridal details matched that in spades. I just love those rings, and her shoes!
Once Emily was ready, we walked over to the Capitol Hill Club to meet Michael for their first look, right outside. I love his expression when he sees her! So happy!
From there, we headed to nearby Folger Park for some more portrait snaps, and to meet their family for group photos. Michael's nephew? Totally a little heartbreaker! Who can resist such a charming young man in a seersucker suit?!
I actually got to know Michael originally because like me, he's active in the DC urbanist community -- he started a blog called IMBY (in my backyard) DC. Emily's an urbanist, too. So during golden hour, they indulged me with a Metro pylon photo across the street from the Capitol Hill Club. :)
The Capitol Hill Club is filled with portraits of past presidents... and for the wedding, Hamilton and Washington party favors!
