DC War Memorial wedding | Laura + Matt | intimate Washington DC wedding photography
Joyful and charming! Those two words come through every single image from Laura + Matt's wedding, because that's exactly what their day was. Matt + Laura wanted to have a small, family-centric wedding that reflected who they are and where they are in life today. Get ready to swoon: this perfect tiny, summer Thursday evening wedding has so much to love in every way!
Laura, Matt, and their families from as far away as Texas gather at her mom's lovely, homey Cleveland Park co-op to get ready and get centered in the late afternoon. As everyone gathered, they were met with hugs, wine. and snacks by the bride, bride's mom, and groom.
Laura and Matt really love DC, so Laura found these lovely placecards on Etsy. Everyone's card had a different DC landmark! Some of them were easy-to-guess, and some took a little more knowledge, like mine -- the Library of Congress! I just adored this super-personal detail -- and my own card is at home on my bulletin board now.
I counted over 17 windows in the apartment. Such beautiful light! I'll take a stunning bride and a beautiful window any way. In fact, I had a hard time peeling myself away from portraits at this window. But the day only got better from here!
Once everyone was ready to go, we all climbed aboard the limo-bus Laura had rented to transport the entire wedding(!!) to the National Mall, where Matt had rented the DC War Memorial for their ceremony.
The bus dropped us off at the nearby MLK Memorial, where we made a quick visit for some family who'd never seen it before... and of course, some more photos!
Then it was time to tie the knot under the rotunda of the DC War Memorial. This is one of my favorite spots on the National Mall, and one of my favorite DC venues, period. I love the local flavor it adds, it's super-pretty, and it's the only venue on the National Mall that you can rent with such a local DC-centric tie-in!
The perfect light and perfect backdrop certainly don't hurt, though these two would have looked amazing no matter where we were! Such joy!
After we snuck away from everyone else for portraits, we headed back to the bus. Laura + Matt had planned a champagne toast for everyone! I LOVE these two!
From there, the bus took us downtown to Del Campo, one of the city's top restaurants -- and if you're a fan of Brazilian Steakhouses, it's not to be missed. It's one of Laura + Matt's favorite places, and they'd picked out a perfect menu to share with us all...
Love this! The different generations of married family members, all together.
Such a perfect, intimate day and night. Thank you, Laura + Matt, for making me a part of it!
