Year in review: 2015's (awkward!) behind-the-scenes photos

Kian has this thing that I used to hate, but now I embrace: he never deletes a photo. No matter if it doesn't make the final cut, no matter how unflattering, it gets saved for the future... just in case. When we first started dating, this used to drive me NUTS, because who wants to keep around unflattering photos? But over time, I realized that not all of the photos I thought were bad actually were bad, and that sometimes, they're really fun to look back on, the awkwardness, the silliness, all of it.

So, chalk it up to me loosening up a bit over time. But here are some of my favorite behind-the-scenes photos from my work shooting with Kian and Chris, and our wonderful assistants Cindy and Matt in 2015.

Fixing her hair. If you've been in front of my lens, you've heard me say -- it takes 5 seconds to fix in real life, or 5 minutes in Photoshop!

Juan's hair does not need to be fixed. But of course, Kian enjoys mocking me. And of course, Juan is happy to play into it.

Apparently, I can't dress myself at the crack of dawn, and should not be allowed out of the house for sunrise sessions without picking out my clothes ahead of time. Thank god I'm behind the lens most of the time!

So I guess I actually have trouble with my wardrobe no matter what time of day it is. Where on earth is my other glove?

Chris, on the other hand, always looks impeccable. Seriously, he and Kian always look SO good!

We do whatever it takes to get the shot. Somehow, though, I always seem to be the one laying on the ground in the wet or snow. Hrmm.

Dignity and dry pants? What on earth would I need those for?

My wedding photography services extend to bouquet carrying, and boutonniere pinning. Critical skills, people!

Apparently, if wedding photography doesn't work out, I also have a promising future as a choir director. (Also, Kian, why didn't you tell me I had a hole in my sweater?!)

Being an assistant, on the other hand, is mostly one thing: working a reflector.

Psst... Chris! You're still in the shot!

No seriously, a lot of working a reflector.

In between holding a reflector over your head, it's critical to stay well-hydrated.

Oh wait, Kian, this isn't what you meant by "hold the reflector over your head"? My bad. #doingitwrong.

We actually do a LOT of holding things. From plant stems for ring shots...

Sure, the days are long, but being a wedding photographer is pretty great. I love photographing people in love.
