Canoe club adventure engagement session

Remember October 2020, when we were for the most part pretty pandemic-fatigued, there wasn’t news of the vaccines yet, and we were all itching to see people outside our household, and trying to figure out how to do it safely? It turns out that canoeing is basically the perfect thing for social distancing.

When this couple asked me if I’d meet them for their engagement photos at a private canoe club just off the C&O Canal towpath, I was immediately IN. We spent the afternoon on a tiny island, in the open air with the perfect breeze, and then climbed into canoes for some photos on the water just in time for sunset.

Confession: I taught canoeing as a Girl Scout camp counselor, but that was well over a decade ago, so I brought Greg along (the one and only time so far he’s ever come with me to a session), and he gamely maneuvered our canoe while I used my camera and panicked every 3 seconds about not dropping it in the water. (Reader, the camera stayed dry.)

I’m so excited to celebrate their tiny wedding in the city — I absolutely love it when my couples choose contrasting vibes for their engagement sessions and weddings.

Question: If you were going to do an adventure engagement session, what would it be and why?!
